Right now, after their extensive European tour, the Berlin pyromaniacs of RAMMSTEIN have taken a well-earned break before starting the summer festivals.
Just in time, we could grab Paul by the scruff of the neck of his custom-made Bavarian jacket, to ask him about his auditory habits.
Come on, Paul, what do you listen to....

... when getting up in the morning ?

P: When getting up, I always listen to the radio. I like best any culture programm, where people, who do something special, get interviewed. Lately, I listen to a program about an East German priest who got arrested because he was supposed of have hijacked a sailing boat.

... when driving ?

P: Difficult question. Well, hard stuff only. In fact, I’m always driving as fast as possible. I’ve got a really old jeep with a really crappy hi-fi. The last thing, I considered pretty good for driving has been that Kid Rock song, with the Metallica riff.

...before being on stage ?

P: Before going on stage, we’re listening to Spanish or Chilean folk music. Really awful stuff! I don’t know their names but they’re funny little men, singing absolutely crappy songs!

... when you like to dance ?

P: I’m able to dance to everything. But: the more awful the music is, the more better you can dance to it, in general. Indeed, I like best dancing with Flake. We try to put the meaning of the song into something physical or we‘re trying to figure some proverbs while dancing. Of course, that’s not a very usual kind of dancing, in general.

... when you like to party ?

P: I like it when there is a good mixture: first some PANTERA, later on something like MALARIA’s "Kaltes klares Wasser". Something like that...

... when you’re completely down ?

P: When I’m completely down, I don’t like listening to music, in general. There‘s a song, I really have to cry a lot to: Fabienne Thibeault "Le monde est stone" (note of translator: that’s how it’s written correctly, SONIC SEDUCER has no clue!). When I’m listening to that, I’ve to cry right away! Therefore, I surely won’t listen to it when I’m down. But what do I listen to, when I’m down...? I guess, I’d prefer making some music on my own, then.

... when doing the cooking ?

P: I’m mostly turn the TV on, when cooking. I can do nearly everything with the TV on. The last thing I’ve been cooking, has been Königsberger Klopse" (= meat balls in a white gravy, with capers). Everybody in the band is very good at cooking, btw!

... to chill out ?

P: To chill out, I like reading.
In fact, I never sat down deliberately just to listening to music. I prefer taking my I-Pod and run to relax.

... to sex ?

P: Nothing at all.

...when going to bed ?

P: ... I don’t listen to music either. When going to bed, I’m mostly reading. At the moment, I’m just reading Tolstoy’s "Anna Karenina". In my opinion, that’s a kind of Russian soap-opera, like "Lindenstraße" (-> German TV soap). There are lots of problems ... he is in love with her ... and she loves him ... and so on.
