Radio 1 with Schneider - December 2005
This is the Radio 1 rock
show and my name is Shcnieder I am the drummer of the band
Rammstein. We have a new album out, its name is Rosenrot.
Maybe you know already, the single Benzin. I think we are
really the first German rock band English people will listen
to, nobody understands us but that’s your problem, we had that
problem for 40 years listening to English music (laughs)
In Russia they are using Rammstein to teach German. If
you are really into it you can learn German language and you
will understand everything. There is one sentence I really
like in Benzin. “Willst du dich von etwas trennen dann
musst du es verbrennen Willst du es nie wieder sehen
lass es schwimmen in Benzin” which means; if you want
to get rid of something you have to let it swim in Benzin.
There is a song called Mann Gegen Mann which means men
against men, unique Rammstein song and the lyrics are about
homosexuality.
We are choosing 3 songs from different
decades which we are very very into. The first is an old
Pantera song which for me was the most cool song that Ben ever
written and is called A New Level. Pantera is a band who
nailed her music right on the point. When I heard that music
for the first time it was like a fist into my face. There
is an essence of how to make heavy metal music and maybe there
are some wild and harder bands out now. Patera play together
especially bass and drums together is still an example of how
to do it.
That was Pantera, A New Level, which I think
one of the best songs of that band. It’s so cool!
Now
we are going on in time and listening to something more modern
to maybe some people call the most evil band on the planet
right now, the American band, Slipknot. Today we will listen
to the opening song to their 2001 album, Iowa. In the first, I
didn’t like that band, I thought its too obvious, you know,
just the masks and I didn’t listen too much to the music and
the music was too fast and wild just pure energy. But we
played the tours with them together in 2001 and I listened to
the band 6 weeks every evening and I start to like it. I liked
it the energy of the band and yeah, the music is maybe not so
much on the point but it’s so wild and so outrageous that its
definitely an important band in that genre.
(sigh/gasp) That was Slipknot, if we need a break we
to breathe (giggles) a little bit. Now we jump into the
year 2005. I want to talk about the Scandinavian band
Meshuggah. A band I really admire for what they do, they
did a remix for one of our songs, Benzin. When I first heard
it for the first time I was very envy, like we could ever do
that. Here is Meshuggah with
Benzin.
