Rammstein take the piss with political video
Hot on the heels of their shocking ‘Mein Teil’ video, German industrial rockers Rammstein are set to stir more controversy in the US with their promo clip for ‘Amerika.
The song is a brutally sarcastic comment on America’s cultural stranglehold on the world. The video depicts the band dressed as NASA astronauts performing on the moon, interspersed with clips of African tribes munching on American pizza and watching TV, while a religious follower in the Middle East removes his Nike trainers before kneeling to pray.
“You have to admit your personality and tastes are made up of American ideas, American dreams, American ideals,” drummer Christoph Schneider tells Kerrang!. “There’s no escape – for anyone”
“We conceived ’Amerika’ as a kind of Trojan horse,” adds keyboard player Flake Lorenz. “We suspect that it’s going to get a different reaction in the States to the rest of the world.”
Rammstein’s new single ‘Amerika’ will be released on October 18. The band’s new album ‘Reise, Reise’ hits the shelves next week.

Rammstein - Amerika
As anthemic as it is silly, this dark-hued epic is Rammstein’s best work since ‘Du Hast’, managing to convey a sense of apocalyptic imperial doom – despite containing ludicrous lyrics about Mickey Mouse and Wonderbras. Brilliant.
